PS product is very easy to crack and has poor impact resistance. Many customers have the problem with their moulds to manufacture PS product. There is a little crack or something like that, not smooth of surface. Then how to effectively avoid PS cracking during mould injecting? Then how to solve this problem?
Many customers will reduce cooling time, or reducing water from both side of the mould. This method is not completely acceptable because demolding the part with high temperature causing warping and this is undesirable for assembling of the part. Or faster injection speed to inject more speed is creating more flash. These can work to aviod PS crack, but not everythingtime. Crack of PS material is occuring from cycle to cycle. Then what can we do about this problem?
At first, you need to check draft and tool finish in this area. Too little draft and the part will be cracked while opening the mould. Check the steel temperature, poor or too much cooling could cause this as moulded in stress from different cooling. You may have a poor knit line to improve air venting of this area. Check how much radius is on the inside and outside of the part, the thickness and the radius is important.
And if it is crack when the mould is opened, before ejection, it could be from sticking in the stationary half of the mould. This maybe caused by uncorrectly moving of the inserts. You need to adjust the timing or polish.

Any machine or electronic apparatus needs maintenance. Good maintenance can expand machine service life substantially.
What is the right way to maintain injection molding machine?
1) Ensure the power is rightly connect, buttons and switches are rightly used, the procedure of starting machine is right according to instruction.
2) The regular check and maintenance of injection machine could be divided as weekly, monthly and annually items.
1. Weekly maintenance
a. Check and tightening screws such as connecting screws on elbow, screws to fix mould, screws to fix limit switch etc.
b. Check the cooling system of hydraulic oil and lubricating oil. Check whether there is leakage of oil or water and fix or change seal ring if necessary.
c. Check the oil condition of lubricating points and oil pipes. Whether there is water, metal powder or other impurities in the oil. Change lubricating oil or filter the oil if necessary.
2. Monthly maintenance
a. Check hydraulic oil quality. If there is impurities, oil insufficient or water, take necessary measures.
b. Check the electrical lines, loosen or not.
c. Check air filter on electrical cabinet, clear and take down and clean if necessary.
d. Clean hydraulic oil filter.
e. Clean the moving areas such as tie bar, and lubricate.
3. Annually maintenance
a. Check hydraulic oil quality, usually it should be changed every 1-1.5 years. For new machine, 3 months after put to use, the hydraulic oil should be drained and filtered and clean the valves, pipes, oil boxes, then put the oil back.
b. Revise error between thermocouple temperature indicator and thermometer measurement.
c. Check connection points fastness in electrical cabinet. Check whether the insulation rubber is aged. Change the lines if necessary.
d. Check gear system of mechanical transmission. Such as clean the bearing, check wear condition of the bearing. Change bearing if necessary. Check wheel gear wear condition, lubrication oil condition in gear box, etc. and make records.
e. Check screw, and barrel wear conditions, fix wear and scratch and make records.
f. Take down and check driving motor, hydraulic pump, motor. Check wear condition of bearing and pump body, etc, clean and add lubricate oil. Make records.
g. Check quick-wear part, seal ring. Change if necessary.
If an injection machine is maintained in the right way and right frequency, it not only make machine work more stably and safely, and produce more qualified products. There will be less chance that it break and needs repairing. It will also profoundly prolong the service time of the machine.
